Maria Quiroga was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. In pursuit of the American dream, she immigrated to the United States with her parents as a young adult. Here, she overcame language and cultural barriers to attending college. She graduated with honors from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2011 with a degree in Political Science.
During her studies, Maria externed at the United States Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles with the Honorable Julia Brand. She also participated in the Juvenile Innocence and Fair Sentencing Clinic, where she assisted in representing individuals who were wrongfully convicted and youth sentenced to disproportionate adult prison terms.
